Troubleshooting Quick Tips
Basic Troubleshooting Procedures
If you experience any connectivty problems, please follow these initial troubleshooting steps:
1) Shut down your computer.
2) Unplug the cable modem to reset it.
3) Wait two minutes, and then plug the power cord back in.
4) Wait for the lights on the modem to stop flashing (or "ranging"). This may take a few minutes.)
5) Turn your computer back on open your Internet Browser.
If the "LAN" or "LINK" or "ONLINE" lights on the front of the modem are flashing, while all other are solid, please follow the instructions below:
Windows 2000 or Windows NT Operating Systems
From your desktop:
1) Click on Start > Programs > Command Prompt.
2) Type ipconfig /release and then press Enter.
3) Type ipconfig /renew and then press Enter. (your IP address should change to a 24.56.x.x number.)
4) Type exit to return to your desktop.
5) Start your Internet Browser.
WIN95, WIN98 & WIN ME Procedures
From your desktop:
1) Click on Start
2) Highlight Run and type winipcfg, then click OK.
3) Click the down arrow and select your Ethernet Adapter.
4) Click Release and then Renew. (Your IP address should change to a 24.56.x.x number.)
5) Click OK and start your Internet Browser.
Macintosh Procedures
From your desktop:
1) Click on Apple Menu > Control Panel > TCP/IP
2) Hit The Options Key.
3) Make TCP/IP inactive and Hit OK.
4) Close out the TCP/IP and save the changes.
5) Unplug the cable modem to reset it.
6) After 60 seconds, plug back in the power cord.
7) Wait for the solid green lights. (This may take up to 5 minutes.)
8) Click on Apple Menu > Control Panel > TCP/IP
9) Make TCP/IP active and hit OK
10) Close TCP/IP and save the changes
11) Start your Internet Browser.
If your computer is attempting to Dial out to the internet, please follow the following troubleshooting steps:
Windows 2000 & Windows 98 & Windows 95 & Windows ME & Windows NT Operating Systems
From your desktop:
1) Click the Start button
2) Highlight Settings
3) Click on Control Panel
4) Double click on the Internet or Internet Options Icon
5) Click on Connection Tab
6) Make sure one of the following is selected: "Never dial a connection" or "Connect to the Internet using a Local Area Network"
7) Start your Internet Browser
